Zelensky calls Putin 'patient zero' as Trump invites Russia to G20

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told the UN General Assembly that Russian President Vladimir Putin is "patient zero" who must be stopped, warning against allowing him to drag other nations into the war. This comes as former President Donald Trump invited Putin to the G20 summit in Miami in December. Zelensky cited heavy losses, including 248,000 Russian soldiers killed or wounded in eight months, and over 2,000 missiles and 63,000 drone attacks against Ukraine. He stressed the need for de-escalation before winter, warning that Ukraine would make winter hard for Russians if attacks continue. Secretary of State Marco Rubio discussed the G20 invitation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. Russia remains open to talks but says no conditions exist for negotiations yet, insisting Zelensky would need to visit Moscow. Putin and Trump may also meet at the APEC summit in Shanghai in November, with Zelensky urging Trump to press Chinese leader Xi Jinping to increase pressure on Moscow.
