Ukraine offers energy ceasefire if Russia spares its grid

Ukraine has offered to stop striking Russian energy facilities, but only if Moscow spares Ukrainian infrastructure in return. President Volodymr Zelensky announced this conditional "energy ceasefire" on Tuesday at the UN summit in New York. Zelensky stated he does not know Moscow's exact position on the proposal but hopes the US can persuade Russian leadership to negotiate. He later called his meeting with US President Donald Trump "positive and productive," saying both agree the war must end before winter. The US has been trying to end the conflict, which has lasted over four and a half years, since Trump returned to the White House. Previous talks between US, Russian, and Ukrainian negotiators have remained without results.
