Trump invites Putin to G20 summit as Ukraine strikes deep into Russia
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced Wednesday that President Donald Trump has invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to the December G20 summit in the United States, as Washington struggles to end the Russia-Ukraine war. Rubio said the invitation aims to foster dialogue between Putin, Trump, and other world leaders, expressing hope the Russian president will accept. The announcement comes as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky denounced Putin's "madness" at the UN and urged allies to maintain sanctions against Moscow. Kyiv has faced intense attacks recently, while Ukraine has escalated long-range strikes on Russian oil refineries, depots, and warehouses belonging to e-commerce giants Wildberries and Ozon.
