Zelensky warns Russia of harsh winter if Ukraine's energy grid attacks continue

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned at the UN General Assembly on Wednesday that Russia will face a harsh winter if it continues striking Ukraine's energy infrastructure. He invoked "General Frost," saying the cold has historically aided Russia but could now turn against it. Zelensky stated Ukrainians understand their winter may be severe, but if attacks persist, Ukraine will have no choice but to make it painful for Russia as well. He emphasized that de-escalation measures are needed before winter arrives, requiring both diplomacy and strength. This warning follows a similar statement Zelensky made on September 11 at the Yalta European Strategy conference. He has also said Kyiv would refrain from striking Russian energy facilities if partners guarantee Moscow stops attacking Ukrainian energy targets.
