Zelensky and Trump discuss energy ceasefire and Patriot missile licenses

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with US President Donald Trump in New York on Tuesday, September 22, for 40-minute talks focused on ending the war and energy cooperation. Zelensky expressed hope the war could end before winter with Trump's help. Trump praised Ukrainian fighters and leadership, saying both Putin and Zelensky want the war to end. Zelensky stated he is ready to meet Putin anytime and confirmed Ukraine is prepared for an energy ceasefire if Russia stops attacking its energy infrastructure. The US will relay Ukraine's proposal to Russia. Zelensky said Trump agreed to provide Ukraine with licenses to produce Patriot missiles, a key request discussed during the meeting. The Ukrainian president also noted China's Xi Jinping has influence over Putin. Zelensky had about 20 meetings scheduled, including with French President Emmanuel Macron earlier that day.
