Stubb and Putin invited to Miami G20 summit in December

hs.fi (Indonesian) —

Finnish President Alexander Stubb has been invited to the G20 summit in Miami in December, where Russian President Vladimir Putin has also been invited, according to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Putin has not personally attended G20 summits since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Rubio said the invitation offers Putin a chance to talk directly with President Donald Trump, as the US remains open to discussing the Ukraine war despite stalled peace efforts. The G20 includes Russia, but Putin's travel is restricted by an International Criminal Court arrest warrant from 2023, though the US is not an ICC member. Last year, Russia sent a lower-level delegation to the summit in South Africa.
