Ukraine downs 175 targets in Russian attack, but strikes hit home: Zelensky

Ukraine's air defenses shot down 175 targets during a massive Russian overnight attack on September 8, but some weapons hit their objectives, causing casualties and damage, President Volodymyr Zelensky said. In Kyiv, two people were killed and ten wounded, with five hospitalized, two in serious condition. Emergency workers rescued 13 people. Russian strikes also hit critical infrastructure in the Kyiv region, a market in Odesa, wounded two in Kharkiv, and attacked a Kyiv-Sumy train, though without casualties. Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions were also targeted. Zelensky noted ballistic missiles remain difficult to intercept and reiterated Ukraine's need for more interceptors, discussing this with American and European partners, including a meeting today on the FREYJA anti-ballistic system.
