US envoy reports progress toward US-Russia-Ukraine talks; Zelensky outlines next steps

US envoy Steve Witkoff announced "substantial progress" Monday following his visits to Moscow and Kyiv, including developments toward organizing additional tripartite talks between the US, Russia, and Ukraine. Witkoff, accompanied by Jared Kushner, met Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday. European representatives from France, Britain, and Germany also participated in negotiations in Kyiv. Ukrainian President Zelensky said Kyiv is preparing for "next steps" in the diplomatic process, calling Ukraine's proposals constructive. The Kremlin said it does not rule out resuming peace talks but declined to specify when or where. Zelensky expressed pessimism, suggesting the war may continue through winter.
