Zelensky says war with Russia likely to continue through winter
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said after talks with a US delegation in Kyiv that the war with Russia will likely continue through the winter, while hoping for continued American and European support. Zelensky made the statement following Sunday negotiations with US envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, who expressed optimism but announced no breakthroughs. Witkoff said compromise must come from both sides, and both envoys pledged to continue working as long as needed. The US envoys had earlier met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow before traveling to Kyiv by train. Both Putin and Zelensky promised not to strike each other's capitals during the mediation, though attacks elsewhere continued. Ukraine's airspace has remained closed since Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022.
