US envoys leave Kyiv after talks, but Ukraine war concerns persist

US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner left Ukraine by train after talks with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy aimed at ending the war with Russia. The Ukrainian presidency said they presented new, "more effective" proposals. The envoys, who met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Saturday, arrived in Kyiv on Sunday. Zelenskyy expressed fear the war will continue through winter, citing Putin's refusal to negotiate directly with him. Zelenskyy insists territorial issues can only be resolved at the leadership level, a direct meeting he has long sought. Witkoff called the talks "very significant" and urged both sides to compromise, while negotiations remain stalled on territorial demands.
