France has reaffirmed its commitment to deliver two SAMP/T air defense systems to Ukraine, according to a French presidential administration official who briefed journalists on Monday, as reported by Bloomberg. The official spoke after senior representatives from France, Germany, and the UK arrived in Ukraine on Sunday. Bloomberg noted that Macron's move comes amid European efforts to strengthen Ukraine's defense to secure more favorable positions on the battlefield and in potential future peace negotiations. In July, France announced it would deploy two SAMP/T systems once their modernized version becomes available from 2027. France and Italy also agreed in July to accelerate deliveries of jointly produced Aster 30 missiles to October and granted a license for their production in Ukraine. Additionally, Paris and Kyiv reached a preliminary agreement for Ukraine to purchase 16 Rafale fighter jets, with delivery expected by 2028-2019.
