Zelensky: Trump Envoys Bring New Ideas on Energy and Grain to Ease Winter War
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner brought new ideas to Kyiv and Moscow regarding energy facilities, grain supplies, and oil and gas exports, aiming to de-escalate the war during winter. He stated the primary goal is resuming negotiations. Zelensky said the US approach is "very close to reality" in seeking steps before or during winter to bring sides closer to peace, making this winter different from previous ones. He received signals that Russians are "ready for negotiations," though he remains skeptical given Russia's battlefield actions. The president suggested the UN General Assembly in New York later this month as a possible venue for further US-Ukraine talks, with a potential trilateral round involving Russia also under consideration. Previous attempts at ceasefires or halting energy strikes have failed.
