European nations prepare SAMP/T and Patriot air defense transfers to Ukraine

European countries are preparing to deliver SAMP/T and Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine, according to media reports citing sources in the French presidency. France and Italy are coordinating the transfer of SAMP/T systems and Aster missiles, while discussions continue on additional Patriot supplies. The sources said Ukraine's needs could be partially met by Patriot systems, but Kyiv also requires other air defense assets. France has already announced it will deliver SAMP/T systems and Aster missiles in coordination with Italy, with work on the transfer ongoing. Officials acknowledge the coming winter will be difficult for Ukraine due to Russian strikes on civilian infrastructure. They noted Russian forces have not broken through the front line, while Spain and Greece hold Patriot missile stockpiles that could serve as a short-term solution.
