Russia resumes Kyiv strikes after brief pause, killing two despite US mediation

Russia resumed bombardments on Kyiv, killing at least two people and wounding seven, after a three-day pause in attacks declared for a US envoy visit, the city's military administration said Tuesday. Russian forces also struck the Boryspil and Fastiv districts with drones, according to Ukraine's State Emergency Service. Russian state news agency TASS had earlier confirmed the pause had ended. President Vladimir Putin ordered the halt while US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner visited over the weekend. The Russian Defense Ministry said it continues to target port infrastructure and ships used by Ukraine for military purposes, and reported intercepting 306 Ukrainian drones overnight. Ukraine's General Staff reported 237 frontline clashes in 24 hours. Witkoff praised progress in talks, suggesting conditions for renewed three-way peace negotiations may now exist.
