US envoys' Kyiv visit sparks 'American dome' memes

On September 6, US President Donald Trump's special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner arrived in Ukraine for the first time to participate in negotiations on ending the war. Their visit prompted Ukrainian social media users to create memes about an "American dome over Kyiv." During the visit, Ukrainians noted a relative lull in the capital, joking that the envoys achieved what NATO could not in four years by "closing the sky." Residents expressed relief at being able to leave home, visit shopping centers and cafes, and complete errands amid fewer air raid alerts. The envoys visited Moscow on September 5 for talks with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. After negotiations in Kyiv, they stated Washington wants to return to a trilateral format between Ukraine, the US, and Russia. According to Kyiv Independent, Trump may hold separate phone calls with Putin and Zelensky.
