Russia strikes Kyiv after three-day pause as US envoy talks end without breakthrough

Russia struck Kyiv early Tuesday after a three-day pause in attacks on the Ukrainian and Russian capitals expired, damaging two residential buildings, city officials said. The strikes followed US envoy visits that yielded no tangible peace progress. Ukrainian drones also hit the Boryspil and Fastiv districts outside Kyiv, while a Ukrainian drone attack injured several people in Saratov, Russia, nearly 1,000km away, according to regional officials. Casualty numbers remain unconfirmed. The pause was pledged by Presidents Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy during weekend visits by US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. Witkoff said talks were "encouraging," and a White House official said next steps would be announced in coming weeks.
