Russia Strikes Kyiv's Southern Bridge Third Time in Two Days
Russia struck Kyiv's Pivdennyi (Southern) Bridge for the third time in two days overnight on Friday, October 2, fully closing it to traffic in both directions. One person was killed and two injured in a related strike on a residential building. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported the bridge was completely shut, with traffic on the Patona Bridge also halted and Metro Bridge partially restricted. Ukraine's emergency service said a 25-story building in the Darnytskyi district was hit, killing one person and wounding at least two others. Russia attacked the same bridge twice on October 1, damaging its support, road surface, and metro protective barriers. Russia's Defense Ministry claimed the bridge is used for military logistics, also reporting a strike on a power substation in Kyiv region.
