Ukrainian drones strike Europe's largest fuel depot in Samara

jn.pt (Portuguese) —

Ukrainian drones attacked the Transneft fuel depot in Samara, Russia, considered Europe's largest, with a capacity of 1.6 million cubic meters. Witnesses reported explosions overnight at the facility, according to the Astra channel. The depot spans over 200 hectares and receives oil from four pipelines originating in Siberia, Tatarstan, Orenburg, and Kazakhstan. Russia's Defense Ministry confirmed drone attacks on Samara, while local authorities closed the regional airport. Volgograd governor Andrei Bocharov also reported a massive attack on industrial infrastructure, including a refinery and chemical plant. Russian President Vladimir Putin recently banned media from publishing data on refinery export and processing volumes, admitting Thursday that such attacks cost Russia about 1% of its GDP. Russia also struck a Kyiv electrical substation, killing one person, and attacked a bridge over the Dnipro River for the second time in 24 hours.
