Kyiv mayor: Metro across Southern Bridge to resume after expert checks
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said metro service across the Pivdennyi (Southern) Bridge could resume after expert assessments of the structure are received, following Russian drone attacks on October 1. The decision was made at a city defense council meeting on Friday, October 2. The Ministry for Restoration, Transport and Infrastructure has requested evaluations from scientific institutes. Klitschko stated the metro is ready to resume operations during yellow alert levels once the expert conclusion is obtained. The council heard from military, law enforcement, emergency services, and municipal agencies regarding safety and transport logistics between the city's banks. Russia struck the bridge at least three times with drones on October 1, damaging a support pillar, road surface, and concrete barriers. Traffic was fully halted on the Pivdennyi and Paton bridges, with partial restrictions on the Metro Bridge. Klitschko described the capital's situation as "very dramatic," adding proposals will be submitted to central authorities.
