Russian jet drone hits Kyiv school, children escape unharmed

bild.de (German) —

A Russian drone struck a school building in Kyiv's Solomjanskyi district on Thursday morning, causing a large hole across three floors and a fire. Approximately 100 children and 60 teachers escaped unharmed after sheltering in a basement moments before impact. The attack highlights Ukraine's struggle against new Russian jet drones reaching speeds up to 500 km/h, three times faster than previous propeller models. Ukrainian air defense intercepts only about 60 percent of these targets, leaving limited reaction time for warnings. Kyiv has become a frontline city with daily strikes on infrastructure and residential areas. Ukrainian interceptor drones, limited to 350 km/h, cannot match the new threat, and new AI-equipped defenses are estimated to be six months away.
