Ukraine strikes Lukoil refinery in Volgograd and Russian rocket-space center
Ukraine struck the Lukoil-Volgogradneftepererabotka oil refinery in Volgograd, Russia, overnight on October 2, 2026, causing explosions and a fire at the facility. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed long-range strikes on Russian oil facilities in the Samara and Volgograd regions, as well as operations targeting airfields, enterprises, a rocket-space center, and an ammunition depot across multiple Russian regions. The General Staff reported the refinery, one of Russia's largest with a 15-million-ton annual capacity, is used to supply the Russian armed forces. The strikes also hit the Samara dispatching station and pumping stations, which process up to 50% of Russia's Urals export oil. This comes as US President Donald Trump blames Ukrainian attacks on Russian refineries for rising global fuel prices, while Ukraine recently deployed its new FP-7 tactical ballistic missile.
