Samara oil depot fire after explosions hits Europe's largest tank farm

nv.ua (Ukrainian) —

Explosions were reported in the Russian city of Samara overnight on Friday, October 2, with the likely target being the LVDS Samara oil pumping station, Europe's largest tank farm, part of the Transneft system. The facility spans over 216 hectares and holds 71 tanks with a total capacity exceeding 1.6 million cubic meters of oil. It connects four major pipelines, receiving crude from Western Siberia, Tatarstan, Orenburg, and Kazakhstan. Local authorities have not commented on the fire. Samara's mayor initially suspended ground public transport due to a missile threat but later resumed operations. Drone danger alerts remain in effect. Explosions were also reported in Volgograd, where fires were seen near an oil refinery and the Kaustik chemical plant.
