Kyiv mayor warns Russian strikes are 'tearing the capital apart'
Kyiv's mayor Vitaliy Klitschko warned that intensified Russian drone and missile strikes are "tearing Kyiv apart," describing the capital's situation as "very dramatic" as Moscow targets critical infrastructure, logistics, and housing. The warning followed a crisis meeting of Kyiv's defence council after repeated attacks on the Pivdennyi bridge, a key transport artery, suspended all metro and automobile traffic across it. One person was killed when a residential building was hit overnight, and recent strikes on data centres caused internet outages. President Vladimir Putin said the attacks respond to Ukraine's strikes on Russian energy facilities, while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia of trying to destroy bridges, data centres, and public buildings to force people to flee. Russia has escalated such attacks every winter since its 2022 full-scale invasion.
