Ukraine's limited backup plans for Russian water strikes worry officials
Ukrainian officials have expressed concern that the country lacks sufficiently developed contingency plans for potential large-scale Russian strikes on water supply infrastructure, according to The New York Times. Russia has never previously launched large-scale attacks on water infrastructure. An intercepted Russian plan reportedly targets dozens of ballistic missiles and glide bombs at Ukraine's water system, including pumping stations and treatment facilities. Ukrainian officials privately acknowledged having limited backup plans for serious water supply disruptions. The alleged Russian plan also includes strikes near nuclear power plants to disconnect them from the energy grid during winter attacks.
