Putin expects to seize all of Donbas by year-end, Reuters reports

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin remains determined to capture the entire Donbas region and believes this goal is achievable by the end of 2026, according to a Kremlin-linked source cited by Reuters. The source stated there is no chance of a deal along the front line until Putin secures the remaining part of Donetsk Oblast, a confidence based on information from his commanders. The comment was made before Trump envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner visited Moscow. Western military analysts consider such an outcome unlikely given Russia's slow pace of progress. The envoys held talks with Putin on September 5 lasting over three hours, but Reuters reports no signs of a breakthrough.
