Samsung mocks Apple's folding iPhone after welcoming it
Samsung welcomed Apple's new folding iPhone Duo with a publicity campaign, then mocked it on social media, highlighting its own hardware advantage and early market entry. Apple unveiled the $1,999 Duo on Wednesday, aiming to challenge Samsung's long-standing dominance in the foldable segment. Samsung's sarcastic posts on X included taunts like "reheating our leftovers" and "So far, so same," while billboard ads in Seoul, Tokyo, and London touted slogans such as "Welcome to Foldables." The Galaxy Z Fold 8, priced at $1,899, features Alphabet's Gemini AI, and analysts expect Apple to capture a 25% market share this year versus Samsung's 38%. Samsung launched the first mass-market foldables in 2019 after initial display issues, and has since released eight generations. Apple's new CEO John Ternus criticized existing foldables as "like two phones awkwardly stuck together," while Apple leverages Samsung Display for its foldable screens.
