Apple’s first foldable iPhone Duo costs $1,999, but its water resistance fades with wear

Apple has unveiled the iPhone Duo, its first foldable phone, starting at $1,999, with a titanium frame, reinforced hinge, and IP68 water and dust resistance rating. However, Apple warns that this protection can fade with normal wear and tear. The device features Grade 5 titanium, a hinge with over 100 components, ceramic shielding, and a multi-layer folding display with custom polymer and glass layers. Its IP68 rating allows immersion up to 6 meters for 30 minutes under lab conditions, but Apple notes resistance is not permanent. This caveat is common among foldables, as Google and Honor issue similar disclaimers. The iPhone Duo's IP68 rating exceeds Samsung's Galaxy foldables, which carry IP48, offering less solid particle protection.
