Apple Names Foldable iPhone 'Duo,' Surprising Analysts
Apple has announced its foldable smartphone, named "iPhone Duo," a product name that surprised many despite prior speculation. The company confirmed the device on September 10, 2026, with a release expected in October. The name "iPhone Duo" was unexpected because the device features a single large screen when unfolded, not two separate displays. However, Apple emphasizes the two screens on the front and back, justifying the "Duo" moniker. Predictions that it would not be called "iPhone Ultra" were correct. The name evokes the discontinued Microsoft Surface Duo, a similar foldable device released in 2020 with two separate screens and a hinge. Unlike that predecessor, the iPhone Duo uses a foldable OLED panel and is expected to succeed commercially, though its launch is still awaited.
