Apple launches first foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo

Apple has launched its first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, priced from 2,166 francs, making it the company's most expensive model to date. The device, roughly passport-sized with displays inside and out, marks new CEO John Ternus's first major gamble. Ternus justified the format by saying competitors' foldables feel like "two smartphones glued together," while Apple's design better utilizes the 7.6-inch inner display. The outer screen measures 5.4 inches, covering 90 percent of an iPhone 18 Pro's area, and the unfolded device is Apple's thinnest yet. Foldables remain a niche category at just over two percent of global smartphone sales, though IDC predicts Apple will lead the segment within twelve months, reaching 31 percent market share by 2027. Huawei currently leads, while Samsung recently released the Galaxy Z Fold8 from 1,883 francs in a similar format.
