Apple launches first foldable iPhone Duo with IP68 rating, but warns it's temporary

Apple has launched its first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, which features IP68 dust and water resistance, though Apple notes this rating is temporary and will diminish with normal wear. The IP68 rating, tested under IEC standard 60529 for up to 6 meters for 30 minutes, is not permanent, according to Apple's footnote. Google's Pixel 11 Pro Fold carries a similar disclaimer, as does Honor's Magic V6, while Apple's standard iPhone 18 Pro listings omit such warnings. Foldables are more susceptible to losing water resistance due to moving parts, unlike slab-style phones. Samsung's latest Galaxy foldables still have a lower IP48 rating, making Apple's entry competitive despite the temporary nature of the protection.
