iPhone Duo vs. iPhone 18 Pro Max: What $700 Extra Gets You
Apple's first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo, launches at $1,999, which is $700 more than the $1,299 iPhone 18 Pro Max. The price difference buys a larger 7.6-inch inner display for side-by-side app use, though the Pro Max offers a more versatile camera system and longer battery life. Both devices use the same A20 Pro chip, but the Pro Max features a dedicated 48MP telephoto camera with 4x framing, while the Duo lacks one and offers only a 2x optical-quality crop. Apple rates the Pro Max for up to 45 hours of video playback versus 31 hours on the Duo's inner screen, and the Pro Max charges faster. The Duo's folded design is shorter and wider than the Pro Max, uses side-button Touch ID instead of Face ID, and weighs only five grams more. Pre-orders for the Pro Max begin September 12 with availability September 18, while the Duo launches October 23, making it unavailable for immediate purchase.
