Apple's First Foldable Phone: iPhone Duo Impresses With Dual Screens

Apple has unveiled its first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo, at its Surprise and Shine event, entering a market long dominated by Samsung, Google, and Motorola. The device starts at $1,999 and is available for preorder on Oct. 16. The Duo features a passport-shaped design with a metal frame, a 180-degree hinge, and dual screens (5.4-inch outer, 7.6-inch inner). Its hinge uses springs and magnets for smooth operation, and the device meets IP68 dust and water resistance, exceeding Samsung's IP48 rating. The phone runs iOS 27 with a redesigned interface, supports multitasking with two side-by-side apps, and includes a nano-etched matte screen. However, it lacks Face ID, and full performance testing is pending. Preorders begin Oct. 16, with sales starting Oct. 23.
