Apple's A20 Pro chip brings desktop-grade performance to mobile devices

Apple's A20 Pro processor, debuting in the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo, marks a major mobile computing shift by using TSMC's 2nm gate-all-around technology and new packaging to deliver desktop-grade performance without thermal throttling. The chip replaces FinFET transistors with gate-all-around nanosheets, boosting speed by 10-15 percent and cutting power draw by nearly 30 percent. Wafer-level multi-chip packaging places memory beside the processor, enabling up to 40 percent higher sustained performance over the A19 Pro. The A20 Pro also doubles AI compute with a 32-core Neural Engine and integrates a C2 5G modem for better battery efficiency and satellite support. This architectural leap redefines mobile leadership beyond transistor counts.
