Apple's iPhone Duo Enters Foldable Market After Microsoft's Surface Duo Failed

Apple has launched its first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, featuring a passport-style design with a large foldable screen. The device enters a market previously abandoned by Microsoft's Surface Duo, which failed due to software issues. The iPhone Duo shares striking similarities with Microsoft's 2020 Surface Duo, including the name, passport-style form factor, thin profile, and stylus support. However, Apple uses a single flexible screen instead of two separate displays, and has addressed software problems through iOS 27. Apple had patented dual-screen technology in 2017, but waited for the foldable market and app ecosystem to mature before releasing its device. The iPhone Duo now faces competition from Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8 in the foldable smartphone category.
