Apple hikes iPhone prices in India by up to 41% after new launch
Apple raised iPhone prices in India by up to 41% shortly after launching new models, marking one of its largest increases globally this year. The move reverses its usual practice of discounting older variants. US prices also rose Wednesday night, but by a smaller 10% to 21%. The hikes followed Apple's September event where new CEO John Ternus unveiled the iPhone Duo, its first foldable phone. Apple cited rising memory chip costs driven by AI data center demand. India, a fast-growing Apple market assembling many global iPhones, still faces import duties and 18% goods taxes. The base iPhone 17 rose nearly 21% to 99,900 rupees, while the 1TB iPhone Air jumped 41% to 224,900 rupees, drawing social media criticism.
