Apple unveiled the A20 Pro chip, debuting in the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, as its first 2nm smartphone processor, claiming it sets a new bar for mobile computing with desktop-class performance. The chip features a 6-core CPU with two super cores up to 20% faster, a redesigned 7-core GPU delivering 40% faster graphics, and new neural accelerators with double FP8 performance for on-device AI. A 32-core Neural Engine supports 8-bit floating point math. Apple redesigned the silicon packaging, inspired by M-series chips, to improve thermal management.
