Apple Delays Standard iPhone 18 to 2027, Focusing on Premium Models

Apple did not announce a standard iPhone 18 at its Sept. 9 event, revealing only the iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max, and foldable iPhone Duo, with the baseline model reportedly delayed to early 2027. The delay likely aims to boost revenue by steering buyers toward higher-priced premium models, spread shipments more evenly across the year, and give the new foldable more spotlight, according to analysts like IDC's Nabila Popal. A RAM shortage has also raised component costs, contributing to price increases on existing models. Apple may now adopt a twice-yearly schedule, launching affordable phones like the iPhone 18 and 18E in spring, similar to Samsung's strategy. The company also discontinued the slim iPhone Air line due to poor sales, though its design work may benefit future foldables.
