iPhone Duo: 5 Apple rules broken by its first foldable phone

Apple's first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, breaks five long-standing company conventions, including dropping Face ID and optical zoom, while exceeding previous price ceilings. The device starts at 2,339 euros in France, reaching 3,839 euros for the 2TB version. The iPhone Duo replaces Face ID with Touch ID integrated into the side power button due to space constraints, and hides its selfie camera under the internal screen, limiting it to 1080p video. It features only two 48-megapixel sensors without a dedicated telephoto lens, relying on digital cropping for its 2x zoom instead of the optical zoom found on the iPhone 18 Pro Max. Apple also abandoned the anticipated "Ultra" naming convention, choosing "Duo" instead, signaling the foldable as a separate category rather than the pinnacle of its lineup. This marks the first time the most expensive iPhone does not offer the best camera performance.
