Apple hikes iPhone prices in India by up to 41%

Apple raised prices on existing iPhone models in India by up to 41% shortly after unveiling new devices, marking one of its steepest hikes globally this year, compared to U.S. increases of 10% to 21%. The price surge follows Apple’s September event where new CEO John Ternus introduced the foldable iPhone Duo, with the company citing rising memory and storage chip costs driven by AI demand. India’s import duties and 18% goods and services tax also contribute to prices well above U.S. levels. The iPhone Air 1 TB saw the sharpest jump at 41% to 224,900 rupees ($2,359), versus $1,699 in the U.S., while the base iPhone 17 rose nearly 21% to 99,900 rupees ($1,048). Social media reactions criticized the pricing as pushing iPhones further into luxury territory for Indian buyers.
