iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max debut with 2nm chip and variable-aperture camera

Apple introduced the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max at a special event, replacing the iPhone 17 Pro models. The new devices feature the A20 Pro processor, manufactured using TSMC's 2-nanometer process, and a camera with a variable aperture. The A20 Pro chip includes two performance cores, four efficiency cores, and a GPU with seven cores supporting ray tracing and AI units. The neural engine has doubled to 32 cores for faster on-device AI tasks, with 50 percent more memory bandwidth. Battery life is rated at 30 and 45 hours for video playback, and fast charging reaches 50 percent in 15 minutes. The main camera's variable aperture mechanically controls light intake, improving low-light exposure and bokeh effects without relying solely on computation. The Pro models retain their screen sizes and dimensions, with new color options Burgundy, Polar, and Deep Black replacing previous shades. Prices increased by $100, starting at $1,199 for the Pro and $1,299 for the Pro Max. Pre-orders begin September 11, with shipping from September 18.
