iPhone 18 Pro shrinks Dynamic Island, adds third Live Activity slot

Apple is reportedly shrinking the Dynamic Island on the iPhone 18 Pro while adding the ability to display three Live Activities at once, up from the current two, according to a last-minute Bloomberg report ahead of the device's unveiling. This change aims to boost functionality despite the reduced size. Live Activities, introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro in 2022, show at-a-glance info like flight details, sports scores, or Uber arrival times in the black space around the Face ID cutout. Users can tap the island for more detail, a design later copied by Android rivals. The report also notes Apple is still working toward eliminating the cutout entirely by placing the Face ID sensor under the display, potentially by 2027. This suggests the Dynamic Island's current form may be temporary as Apple evolves its hardware design.
