Zelensky warns diesel deal with Russia opens door to gas agreements
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine cannot accept the diesel agreement between the US and Russia, warning it will lead to further sanctions relief and gas deals. He made the remarks at a press conference during the European Council on October 16. Zelensky expressed certainty that the Kremlin will push for additional sanctions easing across various sectors, including banking, chemical industry, and individual designations, following the diesel deal. US President Donald Trump announced the agreement with Vladimir Putin on October 9 regarding Russian diesel supplies to global markets. The deal has faced bipartisan opposition in Washington, with 22 House members urging Trump to reverse the decision on October 16, following earlier calls from seven senators and Republican Representative Brian Fitzpatrick who argued the move violates existing law.
