Ukraine to Resume Strikes on Russian Oil Refineries, Zelensky Says
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Ukraine's defense forces will resume strikes on Russian oil refineries after the United States restricted intelligence sharing and Starlink satellite internet for the Ukrainian military. He stated this in an interview with the Financial Times published on Thursday, October 15. Zelensky said the ban on strikes is lifted, noting Ukraine had observed a three-day pause in attacks on Russian energy infrastructure under a "energy truce" declared by Donald Trump, while Russia continued striking Ukrainian energy sites. He dismissed reports of technical failures in Starlink terminals, calling the restrictions a matter of "political will." The truce, announced October 11, reportedly covered only oil refineries, with Washington warning Kyiv it could halt intelligence sharing and European arms purchases if strikes continued. Ukraine reported unannounced Starlink disruptions that disrupted military missions.
