Ukraine strikes Russian refinery after Zelenskyy abandons US-brokered energy ceasefire
Ukraine struck a Russian oil refinery after President Volodymyr Zelenskyy declared he was "done" supporting a US-orchestrated ceasefire on energy targets that Moscow ignored. The move escalates tensions between Kyiv and Washington. Zelenskyy told the Financial Times that Ukraine's patience had run out following Russian missile and drone strikes on Ukrainian power stations that knocked out electricity to hundreds of thousands. He also claimed changes to Starlink's military version curbing drone use were a policy decision, not a technical problem. The refinery hit was in the Ryazan region southeast of Moscow, owned by Rosneft and supplying nearly 5 percent of Russia's refining capacity. The Kremlin said Ukraine's targeting ran counter to US peace efforts, while President Donald Trump has blamed Ukrainian attacks for raising global diesel prices.
