Ukraine says Starlink restrictions disrupt military operations; Musk says US government controls Starshield
Ukraine has reported that Starlink's military service, Starshield, has been partially restricted, disrupting military operations amid deepening tensions with the Trump administration. Ukrainian officials said the restrictions came as a surprise. Elon Musk, SpaceX CEO, stated on X that Starshield is owned and managed by the U.S. government, with the U.S. military and president deciding on speed and usage limits. He added Starlink is a commercial service limited to civilian or defensive purposes, not offensive military actions. Ukrainian President Zelensky said Russia is exploiting the Starlink issues, launching its largest drone attack yet. Kyiv also reported no early warning from partners before a missile strike, and U.S. officials denied making the restriction decision.
