Ukraine strikes Russian oil refinery near Moscow after truce collapse
Ukraine launched a drone and missile attack on a Russian oil refinery southwest of Moscow, according to officials in both countries. The strike followed President Zelensky's declaration ending a brief truce on energy infrastructure attacks, which Moscow had rejected amid rising tensions with Washington. Russia's Defense Ministry reported a major attack on a refinery in the Ryazan region, southeast of Moscow, early Thursday. Air defenses shot down four Ukrainian cruise missiles and 69 drones, though debris from the drones caused a fire at the facility. An unnamed Ukrainian official confirmed the strike on the Ryazan refinery during the overnight operation. The attack comes as Ukraine seeks to maintain pressure on Russian energy infrastructure, a key strategic target in the conflict. Zelensky has also urged the United States not to side with the aggressor, highlighting growing friction between Kyiv and Washington over the handling of the war.
