Russia launches mass strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure

pravda.com.ua (Ukrainian) —

Russian General Staff chief Valery Gerasimov announced that Russian forces have begun massive strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, according to state news agency TASS. The statement follows Russia's August 30 announcement of planned large-scale attacks on Ukrainian energy. On October 16, power outages hit Kyiv and eight regions, including Rivne and Lutsk, due to shelling damage. Ukraine's grid operator Ukrenergo slightly worsened its winter scenarios after Russian strikes on thermal power plants intended for winter use, though the company does not assess the situation as critical.
