Russia Plans Month-Long Strikes to Cut Power and Water in Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Odessa
American media report that Russia plans a month-long campaign of massive strikes on Ukrainian cities, aiming to cut off Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Odessa from electricity, water, and heating. The plan, obtained by the New York Times, estimates Russia would need about 70 ballistic missiles, 720 long-range drones, and 150 guided bombs to achieve this goal. Ukrainian air defenses have been weakened by years of attacks and reduced US aid, while Russia's arsenal has grown more effective. Ukraine's energy infrastructure is so strained that a single hit can cause damage as severe as several strikes in the past. Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian refineries and data centers cannot inflict comparable economic damage, and officials fear Moscow is better prepared now than at any earlier stage of the war.
