Gerasimov reports to Putin on massive strikes against Ukraine's energy grid
Russian Chief of General Staff Valery Gerasimov reported to President Vladimir Putin on October 16 about the start of massive strikes on Ukrainian energy facilities, according to Russian state agency TASS. Gerasimov stated the Russian army has identified a list of Ukrainian energy targets and the means to attack them. The announcement came days after US President Donald Trump announced an energy ceasefire on October 11, which Russia continued to violate while Ukraine refrained from striking Russian energy sites for three days. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported Russian ballistic missile strikes on Kyiv and Kharkiv energy infrastructure on October 14, prompting him to lift restrictions on Ukrainian strikes against Russian oil refineries. Putin subsequently threatened retaliation, while Trump criticized Ukraine's resumed attacks for allegedly raising global oil prices.
