Ukraine's 2027 External Financing Need Exceeds $52 Billion
Ukraine's external budget financing need for 2027 exceeds $52 billion, according to Prime Minister Serhiy Koretskyi, who discussed the figure with the World Bank, IMF, EU, and G7 representatives. About $20 billion is already secured through agreements with the EU, IMF, and Japan, leaving over $32.6 billion to be raised. Koretskyi stated these funds are critical for defense, pensions, hospitals, and business support, with defense spending projected at nearly 44% of GDP next year. The off-budget defense need is estimated at $45 billion, and tax revenues are expected to fall $1.5 billion short due to Russian attacks on infrastructure. Ukraine must approve legislation this week to continue receiving international support.
